Streetstyle Roundup

Here are some cute street-style photos out on the web recently. Some much needed inspiration, as I've been feeling pretty rotten toward my closet lately, more specifically my winter clothes selection. Come to think of it, it may be the lobster dip, potato casserole and wine that I consumed in huge quantities over the weekend that has caused me to shy away from wearing anything that doesn't resemble a sack. Alright, alright, enough complaining already.

Best of...Olive Trees

All of this D.C. rain and cold has made me wish for a little sunshine. When I'm stuck indoors throughout the winter, there's nothing cozier than being surrounded by plants and trees. I've been loving indoor olive trees lately, with their ornamental leaves and graceful branches. They are evergreen trees and require a lot of sun, but they really brighten up a room, don't you think?

Artist Spotlight: Fumiko Toda

Here are some beautiful paintings I came across by mixed-media artist Fumiko Toda . I love her color palette and subject choices...

"I have been painting insects since I was a girl in rural Japan. Bugs, snakes, flies, butterflies and countless other tiny fauna are both my subject and medium. I celebrate their existence in vibrant paintings and prints, and also use them as a tool to express a sense of loneliness and isolation that I carry from childhood.

I had no sense of who I was growing up in Japan - the society is so uniform and I was pushed to behave a certain way and never felt like I knew myself. I regularly escaped to a nearby pond, where I would entertain myself for hours, observing and picking up bugs and other wildlife. I enjoyed being in this new situation; it gave me a sense of myself and an understanding that the world was larger than just me."

Toledo Apartment

The New York City apartment of Isabel and Ruben Toledo is so so pretty. The windows, the cactus...just perfect. Isabel and Ruben are both from Cuba, but attended the same high school where they met. Isabel is a fashion designer, while Ruben works as a painter, illustrator, sculptor, etc. They both work out of their home on separate floors that divide their studios. Woody Allen used this apartment for his movie Melinda and Melinda, where apparently the large cactus fell on one of the stars, sending her to the hospital...a little random movie fact for you.

Etsy Friday

Here's some pretty things from Etsy this week. They really have some amazing handmade gift ideas. Well, running out the door...or more like into the shower then out the door, and onto Pennsylvania for a thrifting adventure this weekend with my best pal! xo

Streetstyle Roundup

It's that time of year again, the time when you start to notice a few things, like that your closet needs more over-sized, comfy sweaters, or that your go-to warm, winter socks suddenly have holes and why the hell does your best winter coat smell like an old man? So in honor of autumn...here's some of my favorite, recent street-style photos.

Best of....Plaid

I love the look of plaid...the mismatched, gingham-esque colors, the soft feel of a plaid throw, heck if plaid had a smell I'd love that too. Sadly, many a good "trend" has been ruined by overkill and cheap knock-offs (I'm talking to you, Forever 21). But for now, I'm keeping my eyes out for the perfect plaid throw during my Pennsylvania thrifting adventure this weekend (I'll have pictures next week).

Artist Spotlight

I'm crazy for all the beautiful rugs, pillows and textiles Shanan Campanaro designs at her studio under the name Eskayel. She utilizes the surreal quality of her paintings to create unique home decor products. I'll take one of everything.

Airbnb Breakfast

House stalking on Airbnb is the perfect way to spend your morning. Coffee in hand. Spinach quiche eaten. All the boring things that I need to get done today slipping farther and farther away. Bless you, procrastination.
