I love these two pictures from The Sartorialist. The wedge sandals are just perfect.

Dip Dye
After seeing an article in Martha Stewart, I have been having the urge to try out dip dyeing for myself. I think I could get a little dip-dye crazy so I will restrict myself to some throw pillows (finger crossed...I'll let you know how it goes) & not go all willy-nilly with it. Here's some great tutorials over at Martha Stewart's website.

Easter Showers
I know it's Tuesday afternoon and this is coming a bit late, but I had the most lovely Easter. Sad in some respects, as we had to say goodbye to some close friends who were moving, but in true Walker-Frost fashion we still had a lot of fun running around taking pictures.
My honey and I decided to take a country drive and we ended the afternoon in the historic downtown of Frederick, MD. It's always the perfect town to find yourself unexpectedly after a long day. On the drive home, I, unfortunately, drank too much coffee (a pastime of mine) and began spazzing out at my husband, terrified that every car on the road was somehow out to kill us and he was unaware of this. After I calmed down, we started driving through a really, beautiful lighting storm...and Band of Horses was playing on the radio...it can't get much better.

Tom Waits
My dear friend, Nicki, was the one who introduced me to Tom Waits. She always brings such amazing, new-old music to my attention...music that makes you feel like you're in a different place...like you're visiting an old, crumbling haunted house or watching storms on the beach. I remember when Nicki and I were first becoming friends...I was 14 years old. We would lay for hours on the floor of my room, our heads next to each other, listening to Mazzy Star or Led Zeppelin or Bob Dylan, both of our ears pressed up against my little stereo. She is in so many of my perfect memories.
Tom Waits has been my go-to black cat for all Sundays of leisure.
His cave man voice and old timey beat fill up a closed eye with fun
wanting. I picture soft grave stones and crunchy leaves howling in the
shadow. He is my Bob Dylan at night.

Wool & the Gang
I saw these pretty sweaters over at Refinery29 from Wool & the Gang. They have ready-to-wear pieces or diy patterns to choose from along with a great selection of yarn. For all of you lucky enough to know how to knit...

On my shelves....
Since we remodeled our kitchen and installed glass-paned cabinets, I am in a hurry to clear out my chipped and embarrassing, hand-me-down dinnerware for a brand, spanking-new set. If I had an endless pocketbook, I could go dish crazy, I mean can a girl really have too many pretty dishes? But since spending every last penny on renovations, my wish list has to be a little more affordable.
A little cabinet inspiration...
Here's my ever-expanding wish list:
David Stark plates & bowls
Painter's Stripe Mug & Squat Stripes Mug
Loomed Bowls
Recycled Bedside Water Carafe
Glass Pouring Pitcher
Too spendy for me, but oh so pretty:
Elephant Ceramics offer hand-made, truly one-of-a-kind pieces...they are currently sold out but should be restocking soon.

Tortilla Pie
I made this for dinner tonight. Yummy! It's an easy meal to make ahead of time and then just pop into the oven when you're ready to eat. Find the recipe here.

Affordable Rug Guide
Having a house with all wood floors means I am always trying to find affordable rugs. Here is a great guide I found over at Real Simple. All the rugs are under $1,000 and there are a couple for under $400!

Front Door Colors
This is for anyone who has obsessed for over a month on what color to paint their front door. I tell myself, "Priscilla, just pick something, anything"...so I can stop googling "people's front doors"...I mean, it's getting weird.
Some of my favorites:
I'm leaning toward the charcoal colored one. What's your favorite?

hello again
It has been so so long since I have posted anything on here. Since my last post I have bought a house, completely remodeled it and have begun attending photography school.
Here's a lovely picture from The Sartorialist. I love her adorable bun.
It reminded me of a great hair tutorial I had seen on A Cup of Joe. A braided top bun...such a cute idea.
1. This simple hairstyle is perfect for a warm spring day, when you want to keep your hair cool and off your neck. First, part your hair in a deep side part (instead of combing it back smoothly). This makes it look a little less fancy, perfect for bike rides or Sunday picnics. Then gather your hair into a ponytail on top of your head. The higher, the better.
2. Make a loose braid all the way down the tail. Don't braid it too tightly; a little messy is perfect and it will help it look less "ballerina." Secure the end with a rubber band; I recommend these clear elastic bands, since they'll blend into your hair color and won't be as visible.
3. Creating a circle on top of your head with the braid. You don't want to wrap it tightly like a bun; instead you want it loose and open in the center, kind of like a braided pillbox hat! (If your hair is really long, you may have to double up the braid, one in front of the other.) When you reach the end, tuck the bottom of the braid under the circle you've created to hide it.
4. Pin the braid in place with mini bobby pins, since they're easier to hide and won't be as noticeable.
5. A few suggestions: I like to make the look a little messier by pulling little strands of hair out at the back and sides, but if you prefer it cleaner, you don't have to do that. And if you'd like, you can pin your bangs out of the way with bobby pins.
